Drug Utilization Review

Pharmacy related expenses continue to be a greater percentage of the overall medical spend in Workers' Compensation. Appropriate utilization is critical in controlling these escalating costs, and to do so effectively and ethically requires specialized training and skills from the clinician reviewers.

MediCall has developed trained clinical teams with strong backgrounds in pharmacy services to conduct comprehensive reviews of files, apply appropriate guidelines, and recommend alternative treatment options. These clinical teams can be configured with nurses, pharmacists, and/or physicians as required by the demands of the program. MediCall clinicians also have experience in initiating direct communications with treating physicians to discuss the review and gain mutually agreement on a treatment plan more in line with evidence based guidelines.

As an added step, clients may request additional follow up with the review to ensure compliance to the agreed upon treatment plan. These follow up actions can extend out to six months if specifically requested by the client.
